The Scriptures & the Truth

We are living in a time of fairly pervasive & systemic deceptions. It is well beyond the scope of this site to try to catalog the deceptions we’re exposed to on a daily basis. Nevertheless, they are fairly obvious & incredibly apparent for any who care to look.

The Scriptures are wonderful & refreshing because they freely give us the Truth which we will never see or hear from our governments, corporate entertainment, & “news” media. What exactly do the Scriptures have to say about the truth?

1 Samuel 12:24

Only fear YHWH & serve Him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

Psalm 25:10

All the paths of YHWH are mercy & truth unto such as keep His covenant & testimonies.

John 4:23-24

But the hour cometh & now is when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit & in Truth: For the Father seeketh such to worship Him. Elohim is a Spirit: they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit & in Truth.

John 8:32

ye shall know the Truth, & the Truth shall make you free!

John 14:6

YAHUSHA saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, & the Life: no man can come to the Father but by Me

John 17:17

Separate them through Thy Truth: Thy Word is Truth.

From these few passages, which are by no means exhaustive or complete, it is clear that Messiah YAHUSHA & the Scriptures generally place a very high value on the Truth. The question that naturally follows is, “what do the Scriptures have to say about deceit or lies?”

Leviticus 19:11

Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

Proverbs 14:5

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

Proverbs 6:16-19

These six things doth YHWH hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, & he that soweth discord among brethren.

Jeremiah 27:14

Therefore hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you saying, “Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.”

Jeremiah 48:10

Cursed be he that doeth the work of YHWH deceitfully...

Jeremiah 16:19

O YHWH, my Strength, my Fortress, & my Refuge in the day of affliction, the gentiles shall come unto Thee from the ends of the earth & shall say,  “ Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, & things wherein there is no profit.”

From these few verses, it is clear that dishonesty & deceit are condemned in the Scriptures. Unfortunately, we seem to be living in a time where the bigger the lie, & the more often it is repeated; the more likely we are to believe it. However, what does any of this have to do with Paul the pharisee?
